The series of scanograms where Animals hover in free flight across a night cosmic space. The animals are plastic toys, but on the glass of the scanner top, they come alive. They lose their heaviness and materiality, floating to fulfill the dream of flight. Illusive nocturnal worlds, magical, otherworldly, even cosmic, they carry a longing for a lost, beautiful fairytale world of childhood dreams. They hold a vision of other universes and planets, untouched by human presence. In them, I express my sense of what paradise might be.
At the same time, although the series seems so peaceful and dreamlike, all the animals in this night starry world are deeply lonely. They have no ground under their feet, and they have no familiar world left.

A surreal and slightly sarcastic series. Each photograph features different rooms of a typical New England home, but the housewife is turned upside down. Like the antipodes from Lewis Carroll’s tale, flipped in Alice’s eyes when she tumbled into Australia through the rabbit hole.
The model for this series is Irina Vladi, a Russian native who has lived in the U.S. for over 20 years. Throughout these years, she has always felt a bit like an antipode herself.
The world spins on, indifferent to the madness of men. Governments rise and fall, politicians lose their minds, wars ignite, and terror spreads.
But the Earth remains steadfast. Each morning, it welcomes the sun with quiet grace, its waters shimmering with a light untouched by human folly.
No decree can halt the changing of seasons; no war can delay the thaw. Spring comes, as it always has, as it always will—soft, persistent, and merciful.
