BOOKS

Each photograph in the project can tell its own fairytale. But in sequence, images begin to tell a fairytale of their own.
A small, handmade fairy-tale world in the attic is encircled by a dark forest dense with dangers and ancient secrets — a metaphor for the foreign world the family found themselves in. Its tangled depths belong to the outer world: hostile, alien, and watchful — a place where daughters must not wander without their mother.
Inside, Mother tells her Daughters bedtime tales. Sinister tales. Cautionary tales. Tales about how dangerous the outside world is — the world beyond the home she protects. Around the house, a dark, threatening forest begins to close in, visible through the small windows, drawing nearer with each tale. But the Mother’s warnings are in vain. The daughters leave their home anyway — and the forest takes them.
